Outward Hound Hide-A-Squirrel – Medium

$39.00

Hide A Squirrel (Medium) is a classic plush puzzle that turns your dog’s love of chasing critters into an indoor, brain-teasing game. This soft tree trunk with squeaky squirrels encourages sniffing, problem-solving and gentle play, making it a great boredom-buster for small to medium dogs who enjoy using their nose and paws.

How it works

  1. Stuff the stump
Pop the squeaky squirrel plushies into the openings in the soft tree trunk, pushing them in so your dog has to think and work a little to get them out.
  2. Add a scent challenge (optional)
For extra sniffing fun, tuck a few small dry treats or some kibble in with the squirrels so your dog has both sound and scent to follow.
  3. Let the hunt begin
Place the loaded stump on the floor and encourage your dog to sniff, paw, nudge and gently pull the squirrels out of their “burrows”, tapping into natural hunting and foraging behaviours.
  4. Reset and repeat
Once all the squirrels have been “caught”, you can use them on their own as squeaky fetch toys, then restuff the trunk for another round of hide-and-seek.

Features & benefits

  • Interactive hide-and-seek puzzle
Soft tree trunk with multiple openings and squeaky squirrel plushies creates a simple but engaging nose-and-paw puzzle for most dogs.
  • Medium size for versatile play
Height: 18cm, Width: 18 – 16cm. Sized for many small to medium dogs, easy to pick up, carry and paw at during play.
  • Includes squeaky critters
Comes with multiple squeaky squirrel plush toys that can be played with inside the stump or used separately for toss-and-fetch games.
  • 2-in-1 toy: puzzle + fetch
Use the stump as a brain game, then switch to chasing and retrieving the squirrels to keep play varied and interesting.
  • Gentle on teeth & gums
Made from soft plush, making it a nice option for dogs who prefer softer toys, as well as puppies and seniors who enjoy gentle play.
  • Boredom-busting enrichment
Encourages problem-solving, sniffing and foraging behaviours, helping to tire your dog out mentally and reduce nagging or “naughty” boredom behaviours at home.

Enrichment ideas

  • Use part of your dog’s daily kibble allowance tucked into the stump with the squirrels so they “work” for some of their food instead of getting extra treats.
  • Mix regular kibble with a few high-value treats (like dried meat or cheese) so your dog gets surprise “jackpot” rewards as they pull each squirrel out.
  • Hide the loaded stump in different rooms or behind furniture for a simple indoor “find it” game.
  • Pair with a lick mat or snuffle mat in the same session for a longer enrichment routine on rainy or extra-busy days.
  • Rotate the Hide A Squirrel with other puzzles, lick mats and slow feeders across the week so it stays novel and exciting.

Safety & care

This is an interactive enrichment toy, not a chew toy. Always supervise your dog while they play, especially if they like to shred plush or remove squeakers. Remove the toy if it becomes damaged or if your dog starts chewing pieces off. Choose the right size for your dog’s mouth and play style. Spot clean or hand wash the plush with mild, pet-safe detergent and allow it to air dry completely before the next play session.
