How does the “Puppy Hide N’ Slide” Puzzle work?

How it works

1. Hide treats under the flippers – Swivel a flipper aside, drop a treat underneath, swivel it back. This is the easier of the two mechanisms.
2. Load the sliding blocks – Drop treats into the hollow blocks through the opening in the top. Harder, because your pup has to move the block along its track to reach them.
3. Mix the two – There are 14 compartments across both mechanisms, so you can load it easy, hard, or a bit of each.
4. Start easy – For a pup who has never done this, sit the treats just under the edge of the flipper so a nudge is enough. Push them further in as they improve.
5. Make it harder – Put everything in the hollow blocks. Now your pup has to work in sequence rather than getting a reward from the first thing they touch.

Enrichment ideas

• Feed breakfast through it during the settle-training phase, so the meal does the calming for you
• Load only the flippers for the first week. A puppy who fails at a puzzle is harder to bring back than one who never found it hard
• Once they are quick, switch entirely to the hollow blocks and watch them work out the sequence
• Use it when you need twenty minutes, since a puppy solving a puzzle is a puppy not chewing the skirting boards

Safety & care

• Supervise every session. This is a food toy, not a chew toy, and puppies chew.
• Take it away when the food is gone, or sooner if your pup starts gnawing the board rather than working it.
• Never leave your puppy alone with it.
• Check the flippers, blocks and base for cracks before each use. Retire it if anything is damaged.
• To clean: wash with warm water and soap, then dry fully.
