Nina Ottosson Puppy Lickin’ Layers – Level 2 Puppy Slow Feeder

Puppy Lickin’ Layers is a Level 2 puzzle feeder built for puppies and small dogs. Three layers spin independently, hiding food in over 70 shallow compartments sized for small mouths. Fill one layer to start, all three once they have the hang of it, and freeze it when you need a longer settle.

How do the Puppy Lickin’ Layers work?

How it works

  1. Pull the three layers apart – Flip the game over and squeeze the middle post to release each layer. Not obvious the first time, easy every time after.
  2. Start with the top layer only – Load treats, kibble, wet food or raw into just the top layer while your puppy learns the game. Show them how it spins and let them win early.
  3. Stack it back up and let them spin – Your puppy noses and paws each layer around to uncover the next set of compartments.
  4. Fill all three when they are ready – Same toy, considerably harder.
  5. Freeze it for a long one – Load it with water, natural yoghurt, or peanut butter with no sugar or xylitol, and freeze. Licking settles dogs down, which is exactly what you want from an over-tired puppy.

Features & benefits

  • Built for puppies and small dogs: shallow compartments and a small footprint suit small mouths and short noses
  • Over 70 treat compartments across three independently spinning layers
  • Level 2, but with a genuine easy mode: one layer to start, three when they are ready
  • Takes any food: dry kibble, treats, wet food, raw, or a frozen smear
  • Freezes well, and licking calms dogs down, which makes this a settle tool as much as a puzzle
  • Slows down fast eaters with ridges and mazes on every layer
  • Dishwasher safe on the top rack, low heat setting. On a toy with 70 compartments, that matters more than it sounds
  • Comes apart in seconds once you know the middle-post trick
  • Food-safe materials, free from BPA, PVC and phthalates
  • Dimensions: (pending PLL-03, not published by the brand or wholesaler)

Enrichment ideas

  • Feed breakfast through it during the settle-down phase of puppy training, so the meal does the calming
  • Freeze it the night before a day you know will be busy, then hand it over when the zoomies start
  • Use the top layer only for the first week. A puppy who gives up on a puzzle is harder to bring back than one who never found it hard
  • Put it down during your dinner, so your puppy has a job that is not sitting under the table

Safety & care

  • Supervise every session. This is a food toy, not a chew toy, and puppies chew.
  • Take it away when the food is gone, or sooner if your puppy starts chewing the edges instead of spinning the layers.
  • Never leave your puppy alone with it.
  • Pull the layers apart and check for cracks or chew damage before each use. Retire anything broken.
  • To clean: take the three layers apart and run them on the top rack of the dishwasher on a low heat setting, or wash by hand.
For dogs only, not a children’s toy. Store it empty between sessions. Dog Games Australia is a Brisbane-based, Australian-owned small business.
