How do the Paw N’ Play Work?

How it works

1. Fill the base – Load up to 1/3 cup of dry food or treats into the large base.
2. Show your dog the action – Press a handle down yourself so they see the paw swing across and food drop out. Most dogs need the demonstration once.
3. Teach the paw touch if they are stuck – Drop a treat every time your dog touches the pedal with a paw. Keep going until they press it on their own. This is the step that turns a confused dog into one who plays.
4. Make it easier to start – Sit treats directly under the paw inside the game so they fall out with less effort.
5. Let them work it – Food comes out slowly and unpredictably, so your dog keeps going rather than clearing it in one go.

Enrichment ideas

• Use it as a paw-targeting training session. You are teaching a real cue while your dog thinks they are getting dinner
• Split a meal across it in two or three loads rather than one, so the session lasts longer
• For a dog who gets frustrated by nose puzzles, try this instead. Some dogs are simply pawers
• Run it during a work call, since the slow release means it keeps going without you

Safety & care

• Supervise every session. This is a food toy, not a chew toy.
• With two dogs, watch them properly. Not every dog wants to share a food puzzle. If either one stiffens, guards or pushes the other off, separate them and take turns.
• Take it away when the food is gone, or sooner if your dog chews the handles instead of pressing them.
• Check the handles and paws for cracks before each use. Retire it if anything is damaged.
• To clean: wash with warm water and soap, then dry fully.
